Pep Guardiola Gives Spurs A Brilliant New Nickname

Pep Guardiola Gives Spurs A Brilliant New Nickname

The Manchester City boss named Tottenham as one of the title contenders but he had a new name for them instead.

Tottenham Hotspur have had two decent chances in the last two years to win the Premier League and Pep Guardiola thinks they've got a chance this year too, even if that's not how he's referring to them.

Yesterday Manchester City really showed their Premier League title credentials, as if they were ever really in doubt, by beating the champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in what was one of the more comfortable 1-0 wins you're likely to see.

The win kept Pep Guardiola's side unbeaten start to the season going as they've won six of their opening seven league games and stay on top of rivals Manchester United on goal difference, by just the one strike.

City were favourites along with United before the season even started and if the two Manchester sides can keep up their form then it's difficult to imagine anyone topping them right now.

However in his post match press conference Guardiola named other teams as having title potential and hilariously renamed Spurs:

"We're in September. Chelsea won 13 games in a row last season. They were unbeatable, they won the league. It's not easy. Of course this season they play in Europe. It's a little more complicated for all the teams.

"We have United [and] the Harry Kane team who scores every game two or three goals. Jose with United will always be tough. That is a Jose Mourinho team, aggressive winning duels and so quick on the counter attack. They are already convinced they can do it in this way. It will be tough."

Of course Spurs are not quite a one man team but Kane has scored seven goals in three games in the past week and is already joint second top scorer in the Premier League after scoring no goals in August.

Last season Mauricio Pochettino's team were the only ones to give Chelsea a run for their money and a 10 game winning run was the only thing to even give them a chance.

The season before when Leicester won the league was arguably their best chance of winning it but again the Foxes started from too dominant a position for the north London side to pull it back.

Can Kane FC give it a crack this season?
