Fabinho Reveals Premier League Rival Convinced Him To Sign For Liverpool

The new Liverpool midfielder might still be at Monaco if it wasn't for a player from one of Liverpool's Premier League rivals.

Liverpool started their Premier League campaign with an impressive win against West Ham and there's still more to come from their new signings. That's thanks in part to one of their biggest rivals.

Last season there's no doubt Jurgen Klopp's side made some massive strides of improvement. They comfortably finished inside the top four and got to the Champions League final, before losing to Real Madrid, but despite that there were still some clear areas for improvement.

In the final the Reds were down to the only three central midfielders they had fit, thanks to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's injury, whilst at the back they were hampered by Loris Karius' extremely high profile mistakes. Finally when Mo Salah came off injured only an underprepared Adam Lallana was able to come on.

This summer though Klopp has sorted out his problems. They spent a world record fee on goalkeeper Alisson, to make sure Karius wouldn't be a problem, and spent a small sum of back up forward Xherdan Shaqiri.

In midfield they may have made their best signings with Naby Keita and Fabinho joining. Keita had an excellent start against West Ham but Fabinho had to stay sat on the bench, that's only good news for Klopp.

Speaking to Sky Sports the former Monaco midfielder explained that his former teammate Bernardo Silva convinced him to sign for the Anfield outfit, saying:

"He told me how much I would like Liverpool and how impressed he was by the way people here live, and breathe football.

"We were good friends at Monaco and he was one of the best players there. We had a real understanding, and I'm really happy for him that he won the title last season. I wish him plenty of individual success this season, but not the title!"

Silva moved from Monaco to Manchester City last summer and helped Pep Guardiola's side win the Premier League. He's expected to have even more impact on the team this season and scored in City's opening day win over Arsenal.

Brazilian Fabinho also explained his choice was between Liverpool and a move to La Liga and why he chose the Merseysiders, adding: "I'd been at Monaco for many years, and I believe it was time for a change. I wanted to move to a massive club with ambition that are fighting for titles. It was between the English league and the Spanish league

"This is a massive club, and if this is not the best league in the world, it's one of the two biggest championships in the world."

When he starts for Liverpool it might be very bad news for their opponents with him and Keita in the middle of the park, Bernardo Silva will be hoping his powers of persuasion don't have a negative impact on City.
