Cristiano Ronaldo Wants To Earn €1 More Than Lionel Messi

The Real Madrid forward wants to literally get one over his Barcelona rival.

We've all got that one rival that we want to do better at life, whether we keep it to ourselves or not, it's okay you can admit it. For Cristiano Ronaldo it's Lionel Messi and he doesn't keep it a secret, even in contract negotiations it seems.

There is nothing that bores most of us than the debate as to who is better Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, even if we do keep mentioning it here, and yet there is nothing that drives the Real Madrid forward on more than the same question.

Here's what Ronaldo could spend his wages on:

Whilst I'm sure Messi is driven on by his rivals equally impressive stats it does feel like the Portuguese superstar is more obsessed about being the best than his diminutive opposite.

Nothing then would have delighted the former Sporting winger than winning his fifth Ballon d'Or at the end of last year and equalling Messi's haul of awards. He also grabbed his second FIFA The Best award, making him 2-0 up on Messi.

And whilst most of us would be happy with those trophies and the reported £365k-a-week he makes that's not enough for him. Ronaldo is currently the third highest paid player in the world and according to Mundo Deportivo has asked for a new deal worth €1 more than Messi makes!

The Barce star earns a reported 40 million euros a year whilst his rival at the Bernabeu earns just a paltry 32 million euros a year, I mean you can't even buy Jordan Pickford for that much money!

Ronaldo basically wants the fact that he wins all of the best player awards, along with titles and top goal scorer awards to mean that he's paid as the world's best player and best paid.

But does that mean if Messi nicks the awards back off him at the end of this year then he should hand two euros back so he's once again paid less than his rival? It all seems a bit mad really.

The former Manchester United winger is now 33 and although he has seen a resurgence in form in the second half of this season he may not have too many years at the top of his game left.

Does he really deserve to be paid more than Messi just because of a couple of awards?
