Antonio Rudiger Has An Interesting Take On The World's Best Player

The Chelsea defender was asked about Kylian Mbappe after facing him in the Nations League and went on to talk about the world's best player.

Messi, Ronaldo, Messi, Ronaldo, Messi, Bendtner. Exactly who the best footballer in the world is a debate that will go on through the ages and now Chelsea's Antonio Rudiger has had his say, with an interesting top two.

Remember in the World Cup when Cristiano Ronaldo's goals in the group stages made him a much better player than Lionel Messi? I have to assume Ronaldo's inability to score in Serie A now puts him behind Messi, as well as Marco Benassi and Krzysztof Piatek.

Obviously I'm being flippant but the point was that the World Cup didn't prove to us that Ronaldo was better than Messi in anyway, especially with both men crashing out on the same day anyway.

But we're still no closer to working out which one is the better man and we never will be, we're just lucky to be in a world with them both in it.

However it seems that not everyone actually rates them as number one and number two in the world, even though that seems fairly universal. But, speaking after facing Kylian Mbappe for Germany, Chelsea's Antonio Rudiger revealed that it wasn't his personal opinion.

Following the match against France on Thursday Rudiger said:

"Mbappe is unbelievably fast, really good. To stop him, you have to do it as a team because alone, good luck! But for me the best in the world is Messi, then Hazard."

In a recent press conference Hazard was very humble with any comparisons to the two men who have dominated the Ballon d'Ors for the past 10 years, saying: "It's good to be compared with the greatest ever, Messi and Ronaldo.

"But I am different, completely different. We play in different league. I want to do my job. I try to reach their level, because they are the best."

Hazard was one of the men expected to join Real Madrid to replace Ronaldo this summer, after his move to Juventus, but it never happened despite the Belgian telling Chelsea that he wanted to leave.

The 27 year old has started the season with two goals and two assists for the Blues whilst Ronaldo is still yet to get off the mark for Juventus. I guess he is better after all...
