When a footballer you despise makes the headlines for the wrong reasons, having access to them on social media if often an avenue a minority of football fans decide to venture down in order to hurl abuse.
This is a decision that seldomly ends well.
Last week, Chelsea captain John Terry's name was plastered across various media outlets due to a video being shared which involved a woman who some people were claiming to be the former England skipper's mother.

As is so often the case with events such as these, the video was indeed a hoax, yet that did not stop several rival fans from attempting to trigger Terry on social media.

One fan was Tottenham supporter Danny, who messaged SPORTbible on Facebook earlier this afternoon sharing what he claimed to be a legitimate screenshot of a direct message exchange with the four time Premier League champion on Instagram.
Judging by the snippet of a previous message, it would appear Danny has made a habit of messaging the Chelsea captain, yet never has the 35-year-old offered a response.

Until now, it appears.

Of course, there are question marks over the validity of pretty much any picture or video that surfaces on the internet, as last week's video involving 'Sue Terry' proved, so it should be noted that this could be a photoshopped image and that Terry has not actually bothered replying to Danny.

However, let's hope that the former England international has in fact issued this reply, as it is pretty much the most perfect response he could have provided.
UPDATE: Having reached out to Terry to see whether this response was indeed genuine, the Chelsea captain replied with what appears to be confirmation:
