It wasn't a good day for the Ballon d'Or holder at all.

Ever since Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo started duking it out for the title as the best player in the world it has given a new level to El Clasico and it was definitely the Barca man getting the best of things this time.

Messi vs Ronaldo is a battle akin to the one of the Jedi vs the Sith, depending on which side you're on will depend who you think is the bad guys but without the light there is no darkness.

Today's Clasico wasn't all about them but it's impossible for either of these men to be out of the limelight completely and for Messi he was once again breaking a record as he became the leading scorer in Europe for one club, in history.

His penalty made it 2-0, after Luis Suarez scored the first, and he set up Alex Vidal for the third in injury time. However that wasn't his highlight of the match.

Instead that moment was his free kick that smacked Ronaldo square in the face and fans were pretty sure the Barca man meant it on purpose:

That free kick will be replayed over and over again in the Messi household over the Christmas holidays you'd have thought.
