Who Are The Better Team: Dortmund In 2012, Monaco In 2016 Or Ajax In 2019?

It looks like we are witnessing history in the making with this current Ajax team.

Full of young talent that hold no fear, Erik ten Hag's side are inches away from the UEFA Champions League final after overcoming the odds, time and time again.

From shock results against Juventus and Real Madrid to Tuesday night's impressive win against Tottenham in the semi-final, where Danny van de Beek's goal secured an important 1-0 lead ahead of the second leg.

This magnificent group of players have been nothing short of outstanding in European competition.

In fact, many have labelled Ajax as one of the teams of the season, which has since brought a brilliant debate on Reddit by user istilllovemata:

"The Hipsters' Choices: 2012 Dortmund, 2016 Monaco & 2018 Ajax. Who would come out on top?"

Firstly we have Borussia Dortmund's team from 2012, a side built by the genius of Jurgen Klopp.

Robert Lewandowski was the club's top scorer with 36 goals in all competitions, while Marco Reus and Mario Gotze contributed 35 goals between them in a prolific season.

It was an attacking trio that received all the plaudits, but the defensive line of Hummels, Subotic, Piszczek and Schmeltzer was just as impressive at the back as Klopp's side came runners up in both Champions League and Bundesliga competition.

Then we have 'that' Monaco team of 2016, a side made up of some of the biggest talents in world football.

Leonardo Jardim's side won their first Ligue 1 title in 17 years thanks to the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva and Radamel Falcao, and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League after wins against Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund.

It was almost a crime against football that this group of players were split up, as the above trio along with Benjamin Mendy, Thomas Lemar and Fabinho moved their separate ways.

Still, what a team.
