Roy Keane has decided to leave his managerial post at Championship side Nottingham Forest.

The 47-year-old, who was assistant to Martin O'Neill at the City Ground, wants to focus on his own coaching ambitions following spells in charge at Sunderland and Ipswich Town.

Following the news, some Manchester United fans believe Keane should be appointed assistant manager to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of the 2019/20 season, or at least work at Old Trafford in some capacity.

Keane has previous experience with Aston Villa, the Republic of Ireland and most recently Nottingham Forest as an assistant.

And some think his no nonsense approach could kick United into gear.

It didn't take long for Twitter users to suggest Keane as a possible option: "One of the signings of the summer for United would be to get Keane as Ole's assistant" said one fan.

While another said: "Roy Keane for technical/sporting director would be class."

What do you think?

Keane spent 12 years at Manchester United as a player, making over 300 appearances for the club.

He not only lifted numerous titles, including Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League trophies, but earned a reputation as one of the best central midfielders in world football.

Would you take him at Old Trafford, United fans?
