Peter Crouch has officially announced his retirement from football after 21 years of entertaining the masses.

The instantly recognisable 6ft 7inch striker enjoyed spells at Tottenham, Aston Villa and Liverpool over the years.

But the 38-year-old decided to hang up his size 12 boots on Friday afternoon.

"After a lot of deliberation this summer I have decided to retire from football." he announced on his official Twitter.

"Our wonderful game has given me everything. I'm so thankful to everyone who helped me get there and to help me stay there for so long."

The reality of no robot celebrations and cheeky interviews is hitting me hard on this warm Friday afternoon.

But the knowledge that Crouch is likely to spend more time on the golf course is comforting, to say the least.

Last year the former England international was swinging around regular sized clubs during Stoke City's annual Golf day.

It went down a hit on the internet.

UK publication Golf Magic found the right words after images surfaced online.

"It's the equivalent of Shaquille O'Neal driving a Nissan Micra in an extra-small Topman scoop-neck."

We can't wait to see more of Crouchy on the golf course.
