It has been 51 years since the original PUMA Kings were released and to this day, these timeless classics remain a hit with fans.

From Pele, Maradona and Johan Cruyff to the tenacious Lothar Mattheus, some of the all-time greats have laced up these iconic boots, so you can understand why a host of current stars wear them in 2019.

Someone who swears by The Kings is Italy's team doctor, who has become somewhat of a fashion icon at this summer's Women's World Cup after wearing his pristine Puma's with a tailored Armani suit.

He first came to the attention of fans when he gave midfielder Valentina Cernoia treatment following a nasty fall against Australia.

"The Italian physio knows how to dress for the occasion" said one Twitter user, as he rocked those beautiful black and white cleats with the pricey Armani suit.

Days later he was once again required when Italy came up against Brazil in a crucial Group C tie.

He ran onto the pitch in injury time and quickly caught the attention of PUMA King lovers everywhere, as Brazilian midfielder Andressinha looked on in awe.

PUMA have recently launched the return of their iconic King, teaming up with former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry.

"I was able to share my experience as a player with the PUMA Football design team when developing the updated PUMA KING," he said in a press release.

"The boot has more than 50 years of history and is renowned for its use of premium materials and style.

"We applied the same formula in updating this iconic shoe, focusing on craftsmanship and technical performance to meet the needs of the modern footballer."

Long live the PUMA King.
