Swiss Super League side FC Zurich released a statement on Thursday morning announcing the imminent departure of Florent Malouda from their coaching staff, a piece of news that came to the complete surprise of...Florent Malouda.

In March this year, the Swiss club announced the signing of the former Chelsea winger to their backroom staff, but two months later, after deciding he wasn't compatible to the tasks planned by the Super League outfit, he was relieved of his duties.

A statement on their official website read:

"FC Zurich and Florent Malouda have decided by mutual agreement to end the recently started cooperation. It turns out that the various projects in which Florent Malouda remains involved are not compatible with the tasks planned by the FCZ.

"We wish him good luck and success on his future career path."

Four minutes after the club announced his departure on Twitter, former French international Malouda, who made 80 appearances for his country, responded to the post and questioned whether it really was by 'mutual agreement'.

"Really I didn't know that?" he wrote.

Well this is awkward...

Malouda rose to prominence in Ligue 1 with Lyon before Chelsea came knocking in 2007. He spent five seasons in West London, winning Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League titles.

Then, after spells in Turkey and France, the 38-year-old joined his ninth and last football club in the shape of FC Differdange of the Luxembourg National Division back in January, 2018.

FC Differdange president Fabrizio Bei said: "He was looking for a club where he could train and we reached an agreement so he could give us a hand until the end of the season.

"We have been top three for 10 years and we have played in the European Cup. We want to play in it again this year and Malouda can help us."

We wish Florent all the best in the future after his latest news.
