Gary Neville Wasn't Impressed With Eden Hazard's Self Evaluation

Gary Neville Wasn't Impressed With Eden Hazard's Self Evaluation

The Belgian winger was part of the team that beat Manchester United 1-0 but Gary Neville expects more of him.

Is Eden Hazard one of the best players in the world? Will he ever win the Ballon d'Or or come close? Maybe the real question should be 'does he care?' he certainly doesn't seem to and Gary Neville isn't that impressed.

One day, I promise, neither Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo will win the Ballon d'Or. Granted by that point most of their competition for the trophy might have retired already but it will happen.

For 10 years the pair have shared the prize between themselves, stopping the likes of Neymar, Luis Suarez, Manuel Neuer, Wesley Sneijder and Andres Iniesta from getting close to it.

Could Eden Hazard one day be the man to claim to be the best footballer in the world? At one point it looked like it but then he fell away before coming again.

Speaking to Sky Sports, ahead of Chelsea's 1-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday, the Belgian in essence suggested he didn't care about being the best in the world saying:

"I am more about enjoying the game. I try to be the best, if I am not it is not a problem for me. I just want to enjoy being on the pitch. I know sometimes in football you have tough moments so I try to stay on the same level. It's not in my mind to be the best."

Hazard added that games weren't about him scoring and impressing but the team winning but his nonchalant attitude about being the best didn't sit well with former United defender, turned pundit, Gary Neville who said:

"It deflates me enormously. It really does. He is a top player... look he beat me nine times out of ten in one v one situations so we're talking about a top player.

"But we're trying to push him into that Neymar category... he's never going to get there, he deflated me with his passion."

Neville has a point. It's nice of Hazard to care more about the team but if he pushed himself to be a better player then that would hardly be a bad thing for Chelsea would it?

Certainly with desire like Ronaldo's to be the best then the former Lille player would be even better than he is.

Your thoughts on Hazard being a future Ballon d'Or winner may need to change.
