Those who run the Germany national team's official social media accounts were watching Manchester City's FA Cup tie against Cardiff City with concern.

Neil Warnock's side were thoroughly outclassed by Pep Guardiola's side and did their best to rough up the runaway leaders at the Cardiff City stadium.

Ilkay Gundogan went down under a challenge eight minutes in, leading to Kevin De Bruyne's cleverly struck free-kick under the wall.

But towards the end of the second half, Leroy Sane was on the receiving end of a horror tackle from Joe Bennett as he raced through the Bluebirds backline.

The tackle was straight out of Sunday League - here's every type of Sunday League player:

At first glance it looked like it was merely a cynical foul from the former Aston Villa man, but replays showed he was extremely high and a red card as opposed to a yellow would have been the correct call from Lee Mason.

Sane was forced off at half-time as a result of the injury, while Bennett was then sent off late on for another ill-timed challenge, this time on youngster Brahim Diaz, who had just entered the fray.

Germany were clearly not happy with the challenge on their in-form winger and made the plea to Cardiff to stop injuring their players ahead of the World Cup.

Here's how fans reacted to the tackle from Bennett:
