Unless you've had a massive lie in, you'll be well aware that Liverpool's deal for Virgil van Dijk has well and truly fallen off a fucking cliff, complete with a grovelling apology being issued to Southampton from the Anfield club.
The Reds' retracted their interest in the Dutch centre-half after Southampton lodged a complaint to the Premier League over the manner of Liverpool's approach.
A public apology was then made to the Saints, with Liverpool releasing the following statement:

"Liverpool Football Club would like to put on record our regret over recent media speculation regarding Southampton Football Club and player transfers between the two clubs.
"We apologise to the owner, board of directors and fans of Southampton for any misunderstanding regarding Virgil van Dijk.
"We respect Southampton's position and can confirm we have ended any interest in the player."

While the apology may have been the end of the matter as far as the transfer and any potential punishment from the Premier League was concerned, there is little that can be done about Twitter users spotting an opportunity to engage in #FOOTYBANTZ.
So when van Dijk posted a perfectly innocent picture of himself staring out of a window to his official Twitter account, it wasn't long before his notifications took an almighty pounding.

Personally, I think more should be made of his banging grey tracksuit and trainers combo, but that's just me.
