Ajax Players' Strategy To Get Sergio Ramos Banned Has Paid Off

Sergio Ramos missed the second leg of Real Madrid's Champions League clash thanks to Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Kasper Dolberg's strategy.

Kasper Dolberg raised a fair few eyebrows for an interesting claim that he made about Sergio Ramos after Ajax's 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League last month.

The 21-year-old Danish forward was on the receiving end of the Madrid captain's challenge, which earned Ramos a yellow card and a two-match suspension.

Despite the fact that Ajax were launching a counterattack as they trailed 2-1 at the Johan Cruyff Arena, it would seem that getting the Los Blancos centre-back suspended for the return leg was one of their objectives.

Well, that's according to Dolberg, who said that fellow teammate Klaas-Jan Huntelaar told him that Ramos would likely foul him when he had the ball.

"Klaas-Jan Huntelaar told me to walk close past Sergio Ramos because chances were he would be suspended for the next match," he said (via TV3 Sport).

Okay, talk about implementing a strange strategy, especially when they could have scored an equaliser in the match.

Vinícius Júnior provided a brilliant assist for Karim Benzema, who opened the scoring for Madrid in the second half.

Hakim Ziyech fired back for Ajax, but Marco Asensio would hand Santiago Solari's men an important victory in the first leg.

But who has had the last laugh now, eh? Ajax thrashed Madrid 4-1 in the second leg to knock the Champions League holders out of the competition.

How far will Ajax progress in the Champions League?
