Gareth Southgate watched from the sidelines as his England team put in a lifeless and uninspiring performance against Malta last night - but it was him taking all of the flak on social media.
The Three Lions travelled to Valletta for their latest 2018 World Cup qualifier, and went on to win the match 4-0 thanks to a double from Spurs striker Harry Kane, Ryan Bertrand's first international goal and a Danny Welbeck effort.
A win is a win, and the scoreline sounds very comfortable but England were literally playing against some part-time players ast night - and three of the goals came in the final four minutes.

Moreover, England were against a team who lost 5-1 to Scotland earlier in the campaign - and their fans would've been expecting a much better performance against the minnows.
Supporters could've picked out just about any player for criticism but, instead, it was Southgate taking the brunt of the abuse.
