There's A Football Tournament Happening That You've Probably Never Heard Of

Don't worry neither did we until now.

This weekend is the best footballing weekend of the annual calendar as it's FA Cup third round weekend, when they'll be upsets and stories a plenty. But it's not the only tournament happening this week as the Florida Cup kicks off too.

It doesn't quite feel like the new year until we've heard about how the players playing against our well known Premier League stars were working in a factory just five minutes before kick off or some other tidbit from the third round of the cup.

The FA Cup is the oldest domestic cup competition in the entirety of football and even though three quarters of the teams playing in it this weekend will be resting players you can't not love it.

However there's a slightly less prestigious and history bound tournament about to be kicking off next week that we had no idea existed until now and it sounds marvelous.

Over in America the Florida Cup starts on Wednesday, January 10th, and lasts until Saturday 20th and is a friendly competition between Rangers, PSV, Legia Warsaw, Corinthians, Atlético Mineiro, Fluminense, Atlético Nacional and Barcelona SC.

Each teams plays two games, with Rangers taking on Brazilian pair Atletico Mineiro and Corinthians and PSV also taking on Corinthians and the other Brazilian side Fluminense.

There's no semi finals or anything it's just the side with the most points but any games finishing as a draw will be decided by a penalty shoot-out but the 'winner' will only pick up two points and the 'loser' one.

In the past Koln and Wolfsburg have both won the competition in Florida and it's only been going for the past three years but a bit of winter sun and the chance to play some Brazilian sides does sound bloody lovely.

See English teams, this is what you're missing out on without a winter break!
