Stan Collymore Reveals Twitter Exchange When Lukaku Signed For Manchester United

The two strikers have been exchanging messages on Twitter for a while and that was no different when Lukaku moved to Old Trafford.

We've all got that one person on Twitter who likes most things we post even if we don't know them that well, kudos to that guy. For Romelu Lukaku it seems like it's Stan Collymore.

Social media is a weird place where people track you down to tell you how dreadful a person you are, or at least that's what happens if you write for this website.

I'd just like to remember, if you'll let me, the guy who messaged me back in December, when I wrote an article about Lukaku not signing a new deal at Everton, to tell me he was going nowhere.

Speaking of MANCHESTER UNITED's Romelu Lukaku, hmm, the Belgian forward apparently has a Twitter follower in Stan Collymore with the pair regularly exchanging DMs.

Former Liverpool striker, turned radio presenter, turned podcast presenter Collymore is apparently a big fan of the 24 year old striker.

And speaking on the Mirror podcast Collymore revealed that the pair have a history of DMing each other and that he slid straight in when the former Chelsea forward signed for United:

"He's always followed me and said nice things, so [after he joined United], I sent him a DM saying, 'Congratulations, big guy. Enjoy the step up to a huge club. Be aggressive, be greedy and be ruthless. It's all there for you now.'

"He sent me a lovely message back, saying, 'Thank you. I'll give everything I've got every day and work as hard as I can. I've been waiting for this my whole life. Thank you for the message.'"

The former England international also told the story of when they first started sliding in, back when Lukaku was still at Chelsea and missed a penalty:

"We've been chatting for a number of years now. since he was a youngster.

"The first time I ever DM'd him [sent him a direct message] was after the 2013 Super Cup final, when he missed a penalty. He got absolute pelters from everyone - I think he got hung out to dry."

Knowing the history of most footballers though, it's probably best not usually ask them about their DM interactions.
