Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Ashley Young will remain Manchester United captain for now but hasn't ruled out Paul Pogba being the man with the armband, despite rumours the Frenchman wants to leave.

According to Mino Raiola his client Paul Pogba wants to leave Manchester United but right now it seems unlikely, with the club having stuck a £180 million asking place on the midfielder.

Now Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has added another twist in Pogba's future by suggesting he could soon be United captain. Asked if the World Cup winner was a candidate to wear the armband, following United's first pre season match, Solskjaer said, "Yep. We've got quite a few possibilities there and when the season starts we'll announce it.

"Of course, we'll have a good assessment, see how pre-season goes. But, as you saw, Ashley Young will wear it when he's playing until we decide on someone, yeah."

Pogba had worn the captain's armband at the beginning of last season, including during United's season opener against Leicester City, but soon fell out with Jose Mourinho and lost the captaincy.

The former manager claimed the former Juventus star would never again captain the club, before being sacked just a few weeks later.

Solskjaer didn't return the armband to Pogba with Ashley Young wearing it more often than not, in the absence of game time for club captain Antonio Valencia.

With Valencia now having left the club there is a vacancy to who will take over full time, even if it had seemed that Young would take over.

The problem with that is United have spent £50 million on Aaron Wan-Bissaka so the former Aston Villa winger is unlikely to start too many games next season.

Solskjaer was asked the question following United's first pre-season game of the summer. The Premier League side beat Perth Glory 2-0 with goals from Marcus Rashford and James Garner.

After the match Pogba was asked about his future with the 26-year-old saying, "Who needs to talk? There's no need."

Wan-Bassaka made his first appearance in a United shirt, as did Daniel James, with both new men impressing against the A-League side.

Do you think Pogba will still be at United at the start of next season?
