Michael Owen Declares How Many Goals He Thinks Lukaku Will Score

Will the former Manchester United striker be right about how many goals the new number nine will bag in the Premier League next season?

Romelu Lukaku has been the name on everyone's lips this summer, or personally the end of my fingers as I've typed it so often I could do it with my eyes closed and one arm behind my back, Romeky kykjajy...see. Even Michael Owen is talking about him.

Sorry I'm just pausing for a moment in astonishment at how close that was and also trying not to be too embarrassed about looking like a total weirdo in the office.

Anyway the big Belgian has been one of the biggest transfers of the summer and has already made his mark with Manchester United by scoring his first goal for the team, even if it was in a friendly against Real Salt Lake.

The big question now is will United's outlay of £75 million, plus more in very achievable bonuses, be worth the money or will the former Everton frontman turn out to be a big flop.

One player who has achieved the highest highs but also managed to be a big flop is Michael Owen and talking to Metro the former Manchester United forward gave his prediction as to how many goals the new man at Old Trafford would score next season:

"The only question is how good can he be? Could he become a top United player for years to come?

"I fully expect him to score more than 20 goals a season so it's just a matter of how well he can do."

Owen also talked about the pressure that the 24 year-old might be under at United because of his price tag adding, "Sometimes in football, a move seems to suit all parties and I think this was one of those.

"Top players are just used to pressure. Price-tags are something that you don't even think of, it's just a game of football and when you know you can do it, nerves don't come into it.

"I'm sure he'll be fine from that point of view and I don't really see how he can't be a success. He'll be playing in a team that will create a lot of chances and he's a top player so it's inevitable he's going to score goals."

Lukaku has only once scored more than 20 league goals in a season but it was last term so United fans will be very hopeful Owen's prediction will prove to be right.

On the other hand the former Liverpool striker doesn't have the best record when it comes to being a pundit.
