Lukaku Names The Former Manchester United Player He Hopes To Emulate

The Belgian clearly has some very lofty ambitions at Old Trafford and wants to hit the heights of one former United player.

My lofty ambitions this summer has been to type the words 'Romelu' and 'Lukaku' more than anyone else in the world in a two month period. The striker himself has much bigger ambitions.

I do wish I'd started counting at the beginning of the summer just how many times I would type Romelu Lukaku's name because it's been a hell of a lot of times.

From thinking that he was going to Chelsea to him suddenly signing for Manchester United and just referencing him ever since, mainly when it's come to Alvaro Morata, it's been difficult to get away from the former Everton striker.

What's more is during his first two matches for the Red Devils, friendlies against Real Salt Lake and Manchester City, the 24 year old has bagged goals.

Of course scoring friendlies, especially against City, will be all well and good but there's no doubt the near £100 million striker would want more.

Speaking before United take on Barcelona in the early hours of Thursday morning UK time, Lukaku revealed which United player he wants to emulate saying:

"I'm 24, so can't say I'm the complete package. I can't say I'm in my prime. There is a lot of work to be done and I'm delighted that there is still work to be done. That means I can become even better than I am.

"I'm far from the level of Ronaldo and Lewandowski. That's the level I want to aim for. How do I reach that level? Keep improving. There is always room to improve.

"I just want to become the best player I can be. I'll never say it's good enough. It's a pressure I put on myself. When you play for United you have to perform every week."

Ronaldo became an excellent player at Old Trafford. He may not quite have reached the levels he has at the Bernabeu but he did score 42 goals in 2007/08 season.

Lukaku at only 24 years old still has about four years till he reaches his peak and has already scored 85 Premier League goals.

Will he become as good as Ronaldo?
