Premier League clubs have failed to make a dent in the Champions League in recent seasons, but Carlo Ancelotti believes the English representatives will fare a lot better in the upcoming campaign.

Chelsea, Spurs, Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United will be among Europe's elite, and the Bayern Munich manager feels the competition will be improved, making it a more competitive with their involvement.

"The last period in the Champions League, the Premier League teams had problems, but this year I think they have really good teams in the competition," Ancelotti said in a press conference via Metro while touring Asia.

The veteran Italian gaffer feels the period of English teams not doing well is 'finished.'

"Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City - I think with these teams the Champions League will be really more competitive. There was a period when the English teams did not do well in the competition but it was only a period. I think it's finished," he added.

He also shared his thoughts on his former side Chelsea. The defending Premier League champions make their return to Europe's elite competition after a year out.

The 58-year-old, who managed Chelsea between 2009 to 2011, feels they will be 'very competitive' while praising his fellow countryman Antonio Conte on the job he's done.

"Chelsea will be very competitive in the Champions League. The team is better. Last year was a fantastic year for Chelsea and Antonio [Conte]. He was able to change the mentality of the team and the style of play and for this reason they will be competitive. Can they win it? I don't know - I hope not."
