Ander Herrera followed up a perfect performance against Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round by showing his credentials as a future captain of Manchester United with his actions towards Alexis Sanchez.

In the recent past when Manchester United have turned up at Stamford Bridge it's almost been guaranteed that they wouldn't win, such is their record at Chelsea's ground, but more predictable would be Ander Herrera's role in the game.

The Spanish midfielder has become a bit of a cult hero at Old Trafford but when playing against Chelsea, especially away, his sole task would be to keep Eden Hazard quiet.

On Monday night in the FA Cup, with United under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he had arguably his best performance since moving to Old Trafford in the summer of 2014.

The former Athletic Bilbao midfielder was popping up everywhere and at the centre of everything good United did. He even opened the scoring after his late run met Paul Pogba's brilliant cross on the half hour mark,

Somehow he didn't pick up Man of the Match but United fans may have been even more impressed by what he did to Alexis Sanchez at full time to gee him up:

Speaking after the match Herrera said, "I would like to speak about Alexis, Andreas and Scott coming in and working. Alexis Sanchez is a world class player but he came in and was so sharp."

Alexis Sanchez has come under a lot of criticism recently and has been one of a few players not to turn their fortunes around since Solskjaer became manager.

Even with Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial out injured the former Arsenal forward didn't start. He came on in the second half and his role was to help see out the game with United trying to hit the hosts on the counter.

In the past Herrera hasn't been able to show any of his best qualities at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea fans will be wishing that had been the case on Monday night.

The Spaniard's performance was perfect, on and off the pitch.
