Steve Cooper ready to take new Premier League job hours after being sacked by Nottingham Forest

Steve Cooper ready to take new Premier League job hours after being sacked by Nottingham Forest

Former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper is prepared to take a new Premier League job hours after being sacked.

Steve Cooper is already prepared to take a new Premier League job just hours after being relieved of his Nottingham Forest duties.

Cooper was relieved of his duties at Forest on Monday after a poor run of results, with former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur boss Nuno Espirito Santo being appointed after his own departure from Al Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League.

The 44-year-old Englishman guided the East Midlands outfit to promotion and a return to the top flight for the first time in 23 years last year.

He battled to avoid relegation last season but with the club failing to win any of their last six games, the club decided to make a change.

However, according to a report in The London Evening Standard, it might not be long before Cooper takes over at another Premier League side.

Crystal Palace are the club said to be lining up Cooper as a potential replacement for veteran manager Roy Hodgson.

While Hodgson isn't currently under any tangible threat of being sacked, his contract at Selhurst Park does run out at the end of the season and at 76 years of age, he could once again opt to retire.

It isn't the first time Cooper has been in the frame for the managerial position at Palace, having already interviewed for the job in the summer after reportedly being unhappy with the owners at Forest.

Producing academy talent is a key part of plans for the future at the South London club and, given his well-documented experience working with young players, Cooper would appear to be the ideal candidate.

Back in 2017, he led the England under-17s team to World Cup glory, with players including the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden featuring in their ranks.

Given his success on the international stage and the fact he's already been interviewed for the role previously, he would be more than prepared to step in and make an immediate impact should Hodgson choose to step aside.

The Eagles are without a win in their last six league games but did hold reigning champions Manchester City to a shock 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium last weekend.
