Galatasaray's vice president Erden Timur has revealed a key detail in Nicolo Zaniolo's contract following his transfer from AS Roma.

The 23-year-old moved to the Turkish giants in a deal worth £13 million earlier this year, with the club due to pay the first installment of the player's fee to Roma in November.

The deal includes several performance-related bonuses, with one of them being a Ballon d'Or clause.

An undisclosed fee will be activated if the star winger wins the Ballon d'Or during his time at the club.

Galatasaray will also pay a further £463,000 if they reach the Champions League last-16 and £880,000 if the reach the quarter-finals.

If they make it to the semi-finals, Roma will receive £1.41 million and another lucrative payment if they win the competition with Zaniolo playing at least half of the games in the Champions League.

"We signed him on the last night available [for transfers]," said Timur.

"We’ll pay €15m, half of his transfer value, and the first instalment is in November."

Zaniolo attracted plenty of interest from English clubs before Galatasaray secured his services.

Premier League duo Bournemouth and Leeds United were thought to be interested in the Italian, with the player himself revealing he was 'kicked out' of Rome.

"Actually, it wasn’t just Bournemouth and Galatasaray, but I was kicked out for not accepting the English club’s offer and the fans took it out on me," he said.

"Some [fans] chased me with their car, others came to my house. My family and I were frightened because we felt alone. People were so angry we couldn’t talk to them properly. In those days I also turned off my phone because I was getting a lot of bad messages.

"I was disappointed by the reactions of almost everyone. I won’t name names, but some said we were like brothers and then they didn’t even say hello to me."
