Legendary midfielder Xavi has expressed his interest in moving into management in the near future, but he could well do so in surprise fashion.

The 37-year old, who has won one World Cup, one European Championship, four La Liga titles and eight league titles, hasn't hung up his boots just yet, as he is captain of Al-Sadd in Qatar, where he has won three trophies.

His contract is due to expire in the summer window, and he looks set to become a football manager once he calls it a day.

Xavi has already served us an assistant to his compatriot Felix Sanchez in the Qatar national team, and with Sanchez only in temporary charge, he's admitted that he would be open to taking on the reins for the 2022 World Cup in the country.

As quoted by AFP, he said:

"Why not? I think it would be nice to be a coach here for the national team.

"We will see. I need experience, I need staff, I need everything but at least I know the Qatari players, I know the environment here. I am here to help them to be better, to compete well at this World Cup. I think my aim is to be the head coach."

Xavi, one of the most intelligent players of our generation and someone who boasts an unparalleled football brain, has long been tipped to progress to the dug-out. And it's something he has been thinking about for a good few years now, as per the man himself.

"I started to think as a coach two or three years ago," he added.

"I think that we must follow this legacy of Johan Cruyff, of Frank Rijkaard, [Louis] van Gaal, Pep Guardiola, not only in Barcelona but also in the world of football.

"Everybody enjoyed our style, in Barcelona and the national team. I think we have to follow this way."

Xavi has yet to complete his coaching badges but is very ambitious about a potential management career. Back in March, he told L'Equipe that he desires to become boss of his beloved Barcelona one day.

"My aim is to arrive as a coach at Barcelona," he said.

"You never know what will happen, it's not only up to me. It depends on what you're capable of, the situation, the moment, the circumstances. But my objective, what I want to do, it's certain that it's to work for FC Barcelona."
