Wolves' Clean Sheet Against Man City Has Produced An Incredible Stat

This just shows how impressive the Championship side were, last night

Given the form Manchester City have been in so far, this season, even when Pep Guardiola named a heavily changed lineup for last night's League Cup tie against Wolves, everyone still expected a comfortable victory for the Premier League leaders.

However, Sergio Aguero and co had to settle for a penalty shoot-out to see them through to the quarter-finals, at the Etihad stadium, last night, as the Championship outfit snuffed the Citizens out for 120 minutes, while also coming close to causing an upset on several occasions, with Claudio Bravo making a string of important saves.

Despite the likes of Bravo, Tosin Adarabioyo, Elaqium Mangala and Oleksandr Zinchenko starting, Guardiola could still rely on the heavy artillery of Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva and Yaya Toure, yet Nuno Espirito Santo's men held firm and even the late introductions of Kevin de Bruyne and Leroy Sane couldn't provide a path through to goal for City.

Eventually, Guardiola's men would emerge victorious, after securing a 4-1 victory on penalties, to continue their impressive unbeaten start to the season, which has now seen them win their last 12 games in all competitions.

Yet the Championship leader's shut out of City last night did serve up a rather remarkable statistic, with Wolves becoming the first team to keep a clean sheet against City since Manchester United held them to a 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium in April.

City's record of scoring 57 goals in their last 17 games averages out at just over three goals a game being scored since their Manchester derby stalemate.

With another game against Midlands opposition awaiting Guardiola's men this weekend, against Tony Pulis' West Bromwich Albion, will there be further struggles in front of goal this week for the league leaders or will normal service be resumed for Aguero, de Bruyne and co?
