Cristiano Ronaldo's mother has commented on her son's £99.3 million transfer to Juventus after there were reports that she wanted him to return to Manchester United.

Ronaldo admitted his future was up in the air after he won a third Champions League in a row with victory over Liverpool in Kiev. It was suggested that Maria Dolores Aveiro had tried to convince the 33-year old to head back to Old Trafford, where he transformed into a global superstar after joining from Sporting CP in 2003.

However, she has now denied those claims and explained that Juventus is the perfect destination for the next chapter in the five-time Ballon d'Or winner's career.

"It's a lie that I wanted him to return to Manchester United," she told reporters at Ronaldo's unveiling in Turin.

"It's not true. I'm very happy with his choice. It's a very happy day for all of us. My son will make Juve even bigger. This is a new adventure and a new life. He enjoyed it at Real Madrid but he needed other challenges."

With no competition for his signature, Juventus were able to get the deal done very swiftly. Ronaldo has signed a four-year contract and will earn a reported €30 million per year.

He was officially announced as a Bianconeri player yesterday and says he hopes to take the domestically dominant side to a new level.

"Juventus gave me a wonderful opportunity. I'm so grateful. They gave value to my football style so it's a step forward as I see it. Juventus can have many successes. They have won domestic cups and titles and reached Champions League finals.

"I am so proud they were interested in me. I hope I can take Juventus to an even higher level."

Ronaldo takes on his usual No.7 shirt at the expense of Colombian international Juan Cuadrado, who is now in need of a new shirt number.
