Wayne Rooney Arrested In The US

Manchester United's all time top scorer is now plying his trade in the MLS with DC United and was arrested back in December.

Wayne Rooney was arrested in America December or public intoxication and swearing charges in Washington D.C.

The arrest took place on 16 December by the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority at the airport and was released on his own recognisance after paying a $25 fine on January 4th.

ABC journalist Erin Hawksworth took to Twitter to post the information of the arrest.


The former England captain moved to the US to play for DC United in June 2018, after returning from Manchester United to Everton for just one season.

His first season in the MLS went well. When he arrived in the American capital DC were bottom of their division but Rooney's goals got them into the play-offs.

He scored 12 goals and came up with six assists for his teammates. However the 33 year old did miss a penalty in the play-offs that saw his team get knocked out before the final.

It's not the first time that Rooney has been in trouble with the law for drinking. On September 1st 2017 he was arrested in Cheshire for being caught driving over the legal alcohol limit.

The former United captain was fined £170 and banned from driving for two years whilst Everton fined him two weeks wages, worth around £300k.

Rooney's career has been full of controversial moments from allegations of cheating with childhood sweetheart and wife Coleen to reports of requesting a transfer to Manchester City whilst at Old Trafford.

The latest controversy just seems like a minor misdemeanor but there's no doubt plenty of people will still be overly critical of him.
