The football world has been hit with a tragic loss today as it has been confirmed that Tottenham Under 23 manager Ugo Ehiogu has passed away after collapsing at Tottenham's training ground.

The former Aston Villa captain suffered a cardiac arrest and doctors were unable to save him at the hospital as Ugo sadly passed away early this morning.

Tottenham revealed the heartbreaking news with a lengthy statement on Twitter:

Tributes flooded in for the well-liked Ehiogu, with those who played against or alongside him as well as the Spurs youngsters who worked with him, expressing their sadness at his passing.

Paul Merson was live on Sky Sports News earlier today talking about his former friend and teammate, and broke down.

An understandably emotional Merson said: "Only the good die young," as well as referring Ehiogu as a "top player, top bloke and a good friend".

Viewers praised Merson for going on live TV to pay tribute to his friend.

Tottenham's reserve team game with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday has been postponed following Ehiogu's passing.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this tough time.
