Vincent Kompany wants to continue his trend of bringing his former Manchester City teammates to Anderlecht by signing Eliaquim Mangala on a free transfer.

After leaving City following 11 trophy-laden years, Kompany announced his return to his boyhood club back in Belgium as a player-manager.

The 33-year old is using his connections wisely, having drafted in former colleague Samir Nasri on a free and 22-year old Dutch centre-back Philippe Sandler on loan.

And fresh reports say that Kompany wants to be reunited with his former defensive partner Mangala, who is surplus to requirements at City.

The French international signed a one-year contract extension at the Etihad in March so that City could get a transfer fee for him but a few months on and the Premier League champions are now willing to let him go for nothing to get him off the books.

Kompany feels as though the 28-year old can be a useful player if he was return to Belgium, where he played for Standard Liege for three years prior to joining Porto in 2011.

Mangala joined City for a whopping £42 million back in 2014 and it was hoped that he could become Kompany's regular partner in the City backline.

However, despite a strong debut in which he nullified Diego Costa in a 1-1 draw back in September 2014, it was all downhill for Mangala, who struggled to settle in English football and was regularly culpable for goals conceded by City.

He was loaned out to both Everton and Valencia but recent injuries have meant City have been unable to shift him permanently - hence why they are now content with not making any money from his departure.

In addition to signing Nasri and Sandler as players, Kompany has recruited former colleague Craig Bellamy as Under 21 academy manager, while former City head of academy coaching Simon Davies is also part of the Belgium's coaching staff.
