Wolves are in advanced talks to sign versatile Spanish full-back Jonathan Castro Otto on a permanent deal worth £18 million from Atletico Madrid, according to BBC Sport.

On-loan Otto has been influential in his newly promoted team's success since swapping La Liga for the Premier League last summer.

And now Wolves' boss Nuno Espirito Santo is hoping to secure his services on a permanent basis.

The 24-year-old defender has made 21 appearances this season, despite spending a month on the sideline through injury.

Atletico signed the Spaniard for an undisclosed fee from fellow La Liga side Celta Vigo, but was immediately sent to Molineux on loan without making an appearance for his parent club.

At £18 million, this signing will equal the current record fee Wolves have paid for a player since signing Adama Traore from Middlesbrough two-years-ago.

His ability is starting to be noticed internationally, too. He's made three appearances for Spain.

Wolves will be keen to keep Otto following their impressive season so far since comfortably earning promotion last year.

They currently sit eighth in the table and still with the F.A. Cup still up-for-grabs after knocking-out league leaders Liverpool. A goal at the death saved their chances and earned a replay at Molineux against Shrewsbury next week.

If Wolves manage to see off the League One side, they'll face Bristol City in the fourth round.
