The 43 Players That Have Left Chelsea In This Summer's Transfer Window

The 43 Players That Have Left Chelsea In This Summer's Transfer Window

Chelsea have offloaded the equivalent of four teams, is this right or wrong?

Despite missing out on the likes of Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku this summer, Premier League champions Chelsea overtook Manchester United as the biggest spenders on Deadline Day, spending £202 million in total.

The signings of Danny Drinkwater from Leicester City for £35 million and Davide Zappacosta from Torino for £23 million meant that Antonio Conte's side overspent the likes of United, who spent £169.5 million on Matic, Lukaku, Lindelof and Ibrahimovic.

They might have spent the most, but people are labelling Chelsea's transfer window as a failure after Conte missed out on some of their biggest targets.

Alongside that, the Blues have managed to offload the equivalent of four teams, with 43 players leaving Stamford Bridge.

In the past, Chelsea have been criticised for their inability to give academy players a chance in the first team. Prime examples include Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Dominic Solanke, who have coincidentally moved on this summer.

The fact that Chelsea have offloaded 43 players this summer - of which 29 have sought experience on loan - is a worrying stat for those who are seeking opportunities at youth level.

Nathan Ake, for example, only managed to make seven appearances for Chelsea between 2012 and 2017 - a truly abysmal stat considering his huge talent.

Many supporters were disappointed by the sale of some talented players, including Bertrand Traore, Tammy Abraham and Kurt Zouma.

The previously mentioned Ake was one of the 43 Chelsea players to find another club this summer, joining Bournemouth in a £20 million deal.
