If Neymar doesn't make his €222m move to PSG in the coming weeks, then It looks increasingly likely that Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe will break the current transfer record this summer.

Reports on Tuesday afternoon suggested that Real Madrid had taken a giant step towards signing the 18-year-old talent, with Spanish publication MARCA claiming that a world record fee of £161 million has been agreed between Los Blancos and Monaco for the signature of teenage sensation Mbappe.

Shortly after reports emerged, Ligue 1 side Monaco quickly poured cold water over the deal.

Monaco released a statement denying that a deal had been agreed. "To put an end to this unacceptable situation, AS Monaco is considering asking the French Football League and FIFA to open disciplinary procedures against offending clubs," they said in a statement.

Hours after the Madrid reports were denied, another club are reportedly willing to match Los Blancos' bid of £161m.

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City are one of three clubs prepared to pay the transfer fee, according to the Daily Record.

It must also be noted that Guardiola reportedly met the striker in person before approving his club's pursuit.

This isn't the first time City have been linked with the talented forward.

French outlet Telefoot have previously reported that Manchester City, who are clearly not messing about this transfer window going by their business so far, tabled a monstrous €130 million (£114 million) bid for Mbappe.

The 18-year-old scored in either leg against Pep Guardiola's side as Monaco knocked the Blues out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage last season.

The Daily Record also state that Paris Saint Germain are also willing to match Real Madrid's offer, but considering they are currently chasing Neymar and Alexis Sanchez, then it's difficult to see where he would fit in.

Would Mbappe be a good signing for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City?
