Last summer, Jamie Vardy decided against forcing through a move to Arsenal, opting to remain with then Premier League champions Leicester City and instead of adding an FA Cup winner's medal to his collection, spent most of his season hovering not far above the relegation zone with the Foxes.

Despite Leicester's poor season, Vardy still managed to score 16 goals for the Foxes, rediscovering his goal scoring form crucially, during the second half of the 2016/17 campaign to steer the former champions away from the drop zone.

And the England international has begun the new season in a similar manner to how he finished last term, scoring twice on the opening day, during Leicester's 4-3 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The 30-year-old striker may not be scoring his goals for the Foxes much longer, however, with Ladbrokes slashing the odds of Vardy moving to Chelsea ahead of the close of the transfer window on 31st August.

Vardy's form over the past two seasons has earned him a place on Antonio Conte's shopping list, but will the Leicester striker make the move to Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes? Images: PA

Blues manager Antonio Conte isn't expecting AWOL striker Diego Costa to U-turn on his 'treated like a criminal' comments anytime soon and with Michy Batshuayi still failing to impress at Stamford Bridge amid rumours linking the Belgian striker with a move away from the Premier League champions, the Blues have only £58 million summer arrival Alvaro Morata as a reliable option up front.

Conte's need to bolster his attacking options may in turn lead to a bid for Vardy, with the Telegraph naming the Foxes striker as one of several strikers on the Italian's shortlist, along with Fernando Llorente, Andrea Belotti and Christian Benteke.

Vardy's odds to trade the King Power Stadium for Stamford Bridge have moved into 6/4 with Alex Apati of Ladbrokes saying, "This one really has come out of nowhere, but with Chelsea in desperate need of some added firepower up top, we're taking no chances."

Chelsea's search for further reinforcements in defence and midfield continue to be a source of frustration for Conte, with Juventus holding firm over their refusal to part with Brazilian full-back Alex Sandro and a move for Vardy's Leicester City teammate Danny Drinkwater also stalling.

The Premier League champions could end up being very busy come transfer deadline day. Someone give Jim White a nudge.
