Mourinho Admits He Could Sell United Star, This Month

Making room for a new arrival?

While Manchester United continue to be linked with January moves for both Alexis Sanchez and Lucas Moura, there could also be an outgoing or two from Old Trafford, this month.

The Red Devils are believed by some media outlets to be in pole position to land Arsenal forward Sanchez after agreeing to meet the Gunners' £35 million asking price - a move which has forced Manchester City to drop their interest in the Chilean star unless they can now land him on a free transfer in the summer.

One rumour doing the rounds regarding United's interest in Sanchez involves a potential part exchange deal which would see Armenian playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan head to North London.

The former Borussia Dortmund attacker has endured an inconsistent time of things during his 18 months at Old Trafford.

Signed for £26 million in the summer of 2016, Mkhitaryan struggled to make an impact during his first few months under Jose Mourinho, before thriving from November onwards when he was finally given a chance in the first team, running his own goal of the season competition with sensational efforts on a monthly basis (scoring 11 in all competitions, in total) before putting the icing on the cake with a match sealing effort during United's 2-0 victory over Ajax in last season's Europa League final.

The Armenian started this season in a similar vein, laying on regular assists for the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba, before a loss of form led to another ostracizing by Mourinho.

Now Mkhitaryan is struggling to break back into Mourinho's starting XI and hasn't exactly impressed when given chances recently.

And, speaking during a recent interview, Mourinho refused to rule out selling the former Dortmund man in the current transfer window.

Mourinho said, via Metro, "My approach to players is that every player has a price - doesn't matter who he is, the level, doesn't matter the prestige, the status, every player has a price,' said the United boss.

"And I am not the kind of blind manager. Blind in the sense that this player is untouchable, this player can never be sold. I think every player has a price.

"So when the transfer window is open it's also open for any club that is interested in our players. Then it's up to us to make the decision yes or no. It's up to us to decide what we think is the right price.

"But Mkhitaryan played the last match in the FA Cup against Derby. He probably will play the next one against Stoke.

"He is our player and a very good player. So tomorrow training, then Sunday selected and Monday play."

Would Mourinho be making the right move in allowing Mkhitaryan to leave Old Trafford?
