Lille president Gerard Lopez has confirmed that Liverpool are in negotiations with Nicolas Pepe over a stunning summer transfer.

Liverpool could be on the verge of completing their first major summer signing as Lopez has claimed the club have been in talks with the player.

"I know there have been discussions with the player, not with us as a club, Liverpool has players in those positions, and I read that maybe there was players who leave, or not," he said.

"I am not particularly focused on Liverpool. But it is true that there have been discussions with agents.

"We had two offers before the African Cup of Nations, we'll see after that, my position was to see if we could not do something before it, we had two proposals before it, I had two clubs."

Pepe, 24, has been subject to intense transfer speculation following a terrific campaign for Lille last season.

He weighed in with an impressive 23 goals in all competitions.

Liverpool, though, face stiff competition to acquire his services with French giants Paris Saint-Germain also keeping tabs on the €80 million rated winger.

Since the window opened, Liverpool have completed one signing in the shape of Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg and Liverpool owner John Henry remains coy on future signings.

"We need to get healthy," the American said when asked about reinforcing his side this summer.

"We need AOC (Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain) back, we need a healthy (Adam) Lallana.

"It's not up to me but I would guess we will see more of Divock (Origi) next year. I think he brings something special, he comes with power and speed and brings in scoring.

"I feel really good about next year," he added. "Our guys gave it their all from the first day of the season to the last," he said. "It's a long season, they played up to their capabilities and just gave so much effort.

"It didn't matter who the opponent was, they out-ran every opponent and I felt they deserved to walk away with a trophy.

"We walked away with the biggest one so I'm very happy."
