The future of James Rodriguez appears to have become a little clearer today with reports claiming that Real Madrid have opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain regarding a move for the Colombian.

The former Monaco man was believed to be a target for Manchester United, but now it appears the former French champions have stolen a march on the Old Trafford club in the pursuit of the 25-year-old.

Antero Henrique, PSG's new Sporting Director, has close ties with Rodriguez's agent, Jorge Mendes, who is urging several of his clients towards the French capital, this summer.

A move for Rodriguez's former Real teammate Pepe has also been mooted, with the Portuguese centre-half now a free agent following the expiry of his deal at the Bernabeu.

With United reportedly shelving their plans for a Rodriguez deal, PSG have moved into pole position to sign the play maker, who is currently contracted to Real until 2020.

However, since falling behind Isco and Marco Asensio in manager Zinedine Zidane's plans, last season, the former Porto midfielder has been forced to accept that his future lies away from the Spanish and European champions, who he joined in 2014 in a deal worth a reported £70 million.

Rodriguez is expected to cost PSG around 60 million euros - substantially less than what Real paid for him three years ago - and his arrival may even speed up the departure of Marco Verratti, who is a target for Barcelona, this summer.

Rodriguez has made 110 appearances for Real, scoring 36 goals and lifting two Champions Leagues and a La Liga title in the process.
