Borussia Dortmund Complete Impressive £17.5 Million Transfer

Borussia Dortmund have drafted in Denmark international Thomas Delaney from Werder Bremen as their third signing of the summer.

After a disappointing campaign in 2017/18 where the club finished in fourth spot, 29 points behind dominant winners Bayern Munich, the club have tasked the experience Lucien Favre with improving things at Signal Iduna Park.

The 60-year old was only appointed manager on 22 May after leaving Nice to return to the Bundesliga, but has wasted no time in bringing in reinforcements from German sides.

Versatile midfielder Marius Wolf joined from Eintracht Frankfurt, while 30-year old goalkeeper Marwin Hitz has arrived on a free transfer from Augsburg and will likely serve as back-up to Roman Burki.

Now, BVB have completed the reported £17.5 million capture of 26-year old Delaney, who plays as a central midfielder.

The former Copenhagen man, who scored in a 1-1 draw against Dortmund in April, has signed a four-year contract with the club.

He actually revealed to have received several offers from Premier League clubs but had his heart set on Dortmund as soon as he heard of their interest.

"I've always wanted to play in the Premier League at some stage and I've had offers too... but when Dortmund came calling, I didn't have to think twice," the Dane told Dortmund's website.

"For me, BVB are one of the top 10 clubs in Europe and one of the top two clubs in Germany and the stadium is definitely the best in all of Europe."

Dortmund supporters will no doubt be keen to watch their new man's displays in the World Cup after he was named in Åge Hareide's 23-man squad.

Delaney scored three goals and assisted five in 32 Bundesliga games last season.
