Arsenal Targeting Move For Premier League Star To Replace Alexis Sanchez

An incredibly ambitious move from Arsene Wenger

Arsenal may be enjoying a decent run of form as of late, with the Gunners remaining unbeaten since their 4-0 humbling at Liverpool at the beginning of the season, but the fact that Alexis Sanchez is almost certainly leaving the club either in January or the end of the season is inescapable and has left many wondering who will replace the Chilean forward.

Monaco winger Thomas Lemar was originally Arsene Wenger's first choice, but a £90 million deal for the 20-year-old Frenchman farcically fell through on transfer deadline day, leaving Wenger without the player he wanted and one who no longer wanted to be at the club.

Having refused to put pen to paper on a new contract at the Emirates stadium, Sanchez has left Arsenal with two choices, both of which aren't exactly ideal; Either the Gunners can cut their losses and sell the 28-year-old for a knock down price in January or lose him for free at the end of the season when his current deal expires.

Manchester City have been linked with a £20 million move for the former Barcelona man in the new year - £40 million shy of the £60 million deal they had in place for him on deadline day before the Lemar deal collapsed.

Whenever Sanchez does in fact leave North London, he will need replacing and, according to the Daily Mirror, Wenger has changed his target from Lemar to one of the winger's compatriots - Manchester United forward, Anthony Martial.

Martial has rediscovered his finest form after a difficult second season at Old Trafford, scoring five and laying on another five assists for his teammates. However, the Frenchman has made a lot of his appearances from the substitutes' bench this term and this has given Wenger hope that the former Monaco youngster will look to secure a move away from Manchester at the end of the current campaign.

Given that Jose Mourinho cancelled a potential deal for Inter winger Ivan Perisic because the Serie A giants wanted Martial as part of the deal, it's unlikely the United manager will be entertaining any offers from a Premier League rival for the 21-year-old.
