There appears to be a very, very good reason why N'Golo Kante was substituted 10 minutes into the second half of the World Cup final.

The diminutive midfielder was typically brilliant through out the tournament in Russia, starring for France in the middle of the park.

However, Kante failed to produce in the World Cup final.

He picked up a caution early doors, and never really got going with Didier Deschamps eventually dragging him off in the 55th minute for Steven Nzonzi.

At the time, it seemed like Deschamps replaced him with the towering Sevilla midfielder to potentially avoid going down to 10-men with Kante on a yellow card.

But reports from French outlet Le Parisien claim Kante was actually sick, even suffering from gastroenteritis which is also known as infectious diarrhea.

Wow.

So, that explains Kante's uncharacteristically slack outing.

Deschamps risked starting Kante, who's the vital clog in France's proverbial midfield-wheel, before realising he couldn't carry on by taking him off.

L'Equipe were unforgiving in their assessment of the 27-year-old, rating him 3/10.

The Chelsea midfielder departed the fray with the score 2-1 to France.

His side ultimately secured their second World Cup thanks to second-half goals from Paul Pogba then Kylian Mbappe.

Anyway, Kante winning the World Cup continues his unbelievable rise to super stardom.

Despite his heroics, the diminutive-figure was too shy to raise gold, with his replacement brilliantly asking teammates to let him hold the trophy to take pictures.

Humble. Seriously, who doesn't love Kante?!
