The Only Team Without A Win In Europe’s Top Five Leagues

The Only Team Without A Win In Europe’s Top Five Leagues

Some teams are flying high in Europe, but this one team has some of the worst luck in history.

This past weeks round of fixtures were significant for several reasons.

Manchester City manage to pull away from Liverpool and Chelsea in the Premier League after thumping Southampton 6-1, while PSG recorded a 2-1 victory over Lille to maintain their best Ligue 1 start.

However, it was also significant at the opposite end of the tables across Europe.

Newcastle and Huddersfield both managed to record their first league victories over Watford and Fulham respectively, which has now left only one team in all of Europe's top five leagues winless.

That honour goes to Chievo Verona who currently sit rock bottom of Serie A with -1 point after two draws and nine defeats in their opening eleven games, seven points behind 19th place Frosinone.

A 2-0 defeat against Sassuolo over the weekend has done little to help The Flying Donkeys in relation to their Serie A survival.

Chievo received a three-point deduction and were fined $200,000 in September after being found guilty of false accounting.

The club were accused of trading players with the now defunct A.C. Cesena to generate sums of cash adding up to $25 million, without which Chievo could not have registered for Serie A.

President Luca Campedelli also received a three-month suspension in September in relation to the scandal.

It could have ended up much worse for Chievo, who recorded a 13th place finish last season, as the punishment could have been applied for last season which would have resulted in a relegation to Serie B for the first time since 2008.

The current all-time low points tally is held by Brescia, who finished the 1994-1995 season with 12 points and recorded just two wins.

Currently, it's looking like the near 25-year-old record is on track to be broken.

If Verona were able to drag themselves back up the table and stay up from their current position, it would surely be one of the greatest comebacks in football history.

Who will win Serie A this season?

Let us know in the comments.
