The One Type Of Goal Lionel Messi Failed To Score In 2018

He likely won't be too bothered...

Lionel Messi scored a variety of different goals in 2018 but there was one type of goal that the Argentine failed to score in the calendar year.

It's emerged, via Opta, that for the first time in 2007, Messi did not score a headed goal for Barcelona and Argentina - which will no doubt please Brazilian legend Pele following his bizarre criticism of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

But while Messi ended an 11-year streak in scoring a header each calendar year, we're guessing he won't be too disheartened with his goalscoring numbers for club and country.

The 31-year old finished 2018 with a ridiculous 51 goals in all competitions, two more than his rival Cristiano Ronaldo managed.

Another sensational year of Messi magic also means he's netted 50+ goals in eight of the last nine years.

Only in 2013 did Messi not hit a half century, having scored 45. But given he'd bagged an absurd 91 goals in the previous year - easily the greatest year at footballer has had a top level - we can probably let it slide.
