Paris Saint-Germain might have forked out €222 million on Neymar, but the Ligue 1 side don't have the most expensive team in world football, according to the CIES Football Observatory.

Many people might think that Unai Emery's side might top the list, following the signings of Neymar, Mbappe and Yuri Berchiche, but Manchester City top the ladder among a very top heavy Premier League list.

The six biggest English teams are in the top ten positions of the rankings, with the Manchester rivals making up the top three.

Last year, Manchester United broke the record for the costliest squad of all time when they brought in Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly.

That team cost €718 million in total, but now two clubs in Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have overtaken Jose Mourinho's side in a fascinating report from the CIES Football Observatory.

Paris Saint Germain's total of €850 million this year is a huge jump from last year's figure of €450 million.

Last year, CIES worked out that Manchester United's summer dealings meant that the club's overall spending on transfers and wages is over the £600m mark (€718 million euros).

In 2015/16, Real Madrid were the most expensively assembled squad in world football, but Mourinho's United overtook them. Madrid's current squad is said to be worth over €497 million, a huge decrease in last year's results.
