Manchester United and Liverpool were reportedly interested in signing Aaron Ramsey from Arsenal.

The 28-year-old midfielder attracted attention from the likes of Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, but Juventus announced on Monday that he had signed for the Italian club.

According to the London Evening Standard, the Red Devils and the Reds wanted to secure the services of the Welshman.

The newspaper claims that Jürgen Klopp didn't make a move for Ramsey because he felt that part of his team was "well stocked."

"Jürgen Klopp is an admirer or Ramsey's energy and penetration from midfield but with Liverpool pushing for a Premier League title challenge, he opted against adding another option to an area of the team in which he is well stocked," Tony Mogan wrote.

United, on the other hand, had reportedly made an enquiry about the Arsenal star last summer, but they ended their pursuit for him once José Mourinho was sacked in December.

"United enquired about Ramsey last summer but have since sacked José Mourinho and were reluctant to commit significant funds until a permanent successor is found," Mogan explained.

Ramsey will end his 11-year stint with the London club at the end of the season, having agreed to move on a free transfer to the Old Lady and penning a four-year contract.

Following the two-part medical with his new club in January, the former Cardiff City player will become the highest-paid British footballer after he pockets an eye-watering £400,000 a week at Juventus.

Since the news broke, Ramsey has taken to social media to share a touching message with Gunners fans.

"I wanted to issue a personal statement for all the Arsenal fans who have been extremely loyal and supportive," he wrote.

"You welcomed me as a teenager and have been there for me through all the highs and lows I have encountered during my time at the club.

"It is with a heavy heart that I leave after 11 incredible years in north London. Thank you.

"I will continue to give the team 100 per cent and hope to finish the season strongly, before heading on to my next chapter in Turin."
