The Legendary Shunsuke Nakamura Has Just Signed A New Contract Aged 40

Shunsuke Nakamura may be 40 years of age but the Japanese legend is still going strong.

Nakamura is comfortably one of the greatest free-kickers in football history, banging in so many for Celtic with his wand of a left foot.

In the peak of his powers, he memorably curled in the winner past Edwin van der Sar to give Celtic a Champions League win over Manchester United back in 2006.

And nearly 13 years on from that memorable moment, Nakamura is still playing first-team football with Júbilo Iwata in the Japanese top flight.

In no rush to call it quits and retire, he has signed a new one-year contract to remain with the club for the next campaign and will be 41 by the time that deal is up.

Don't be too surprised if Nakamura follows in the footsteps of Yokohama FC's Kazuyoshi Miura, who is still playing competitive football at the ripe old age of 51.

The only player to have appeared in FIFA 96 and still be playing professionally, Miura became the oldest player to play in a professional football game and broke Stanley Matthews' previous record when he took to the field against Matsumoto Yamaga on his 50th birthday back in February 2017.

Incredibly, King Kazu' started his career way back in 1986 when Lionel Richie was number one in the charts and went on to scored 55 goals in 89 games for Japan, as well as turning out for clubs such as Santos, Genoa, Dinamo Zagreb and Sydney FC.
