By now it's pretty common knowledge that nobody has dribbled past Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk in the Premier League this season, so much so that it's filled up the comment sections of our articles for a while now.

The big Dutchman has been in sensational form for Liverpool in their title charge, with the £75 million fee the Reds paid to secure his services from Southampton looking like a bargain fifteen months on.

And as noted by the Daily Mail, you actually have to go as far back as 3 March 2018 for the last time someone playing in the Premier League bypassed Van Dijk.

The player in question? Mikel Merino, who was playing for Newcastle at the time after signing for Borussia Dortmund. He now finds himself back in his native Spain with Real Sociedad.

In addition to this incredible stat, van Dijk has further displayed how complete a defender he is, he has won each of his last 18 aerials contested at home in the Premier League, winning every duel since January this year.

Recently SPORTbible fans voted the 27-year old the best defender in world football, with 65% voting in favour when we posed the question on Twitter.

The former Groningen centre-back is also the strong favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year award thanks to his imperious form at the heart of Liverpool's backline.
