Paul Scholes will go down in Manchester United history as an all time great, but it could have ended very differently in 2001 when he refused to play in a League Cup game against Arsenal.

In an interview with Gary Neville from 2011, Scholes admitted he was lucky not to be sold by Manchester United because he 'wasn't in a good mood' after being left of a game days before.

'I just got a bee in my bonnet that I wasn't happy with things. I had my reasons but it was stupid really.' Scholes recalled.

Scholes went onto describe how lucky he was to stay at Old Trafford:

'I ended up getting fined and having to apologise, but I was lucky. The manager would have been within his rights to get rid of me.'

The midfield maestro spent his entire career at Manchester United, enjoying a trophy-laden spell at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

From the Premier League and FA Cup to League Cup success not to mention two incredible Champions League triumphs.

But with today's market, it's becoming harder to be a one club man. Though Scholes was never tempted to move away from Old Trafford.

Back in January, the United legend brilliantly detailed the love he had for the club while explaining his decision to turn down advances from other sides.

After breaking into the United fold as a teenager in the 1994/95 campaign, Scholes eventually played 19 seasons at the Theatre of Dreams.

He even came out of retirement to lace a pair of boots again in 2012 to help the club out.

What a legend.
