Liverpool winger Sadio Mane has made sure that those in his hometown of Senegal will be kitted out for the Champions League final on Saturday evening with a brilliant gesture.

Mane, who grew up in Bambali - a town in eastern Gambia that has an estimated population of 1,264 - will be hoping to bring back a winners medal when he returns in the summer.

"There are 2,000 in the village. I bought 300 Liverpool jerseys to send to the people in the village, so the fans can wear to watch the final," Mane said earlier.

Mane went on to claim that nobody in Bambali will be working that day as his family will be watching on:

"My mum and my uncle, they are all going to be watching. Nobody in the village will work this day. I will be going back in the summer after the World Cup and hopefully I will be showing everyone a (winners') medal."

Liverpool's journey to the Champions League final in 2018 comes 13 years after 'that' night in Istanbul, when the Reds lifted the trophy after a dramatic comeback against AC Milan.

Mane himself grew up as a Barcelona fan, but he remembers the night Steven Gerrard lifted the famous trophy vividly.

"I was watching it in Bambali. I remember being with my friend, a big friend of mine, and at 3-0 down he was completely out," Mane said via Liverpool Echo.

"He stopped watching until the end and ran like crazy to get away. Then he came back at the end and he could not believe it. Even to this day he can not believe it. He came back after the game when Liverpool had won!"

Take a bow, Sadio Mane.
