Cristiano Ronaldo applauded and gestured to the Manchester United fans after making his return to Old Trafford with Juventus.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner was back at his old stomping ground and never seemed to stop smiling throughout. He received a typically wonderful reception from his former supporters, who still hold him in very high regard despite him leaving for Real Madrid in a world-record move back in 2009.

After Juventus' 1-0 win, achieved through Paulo Dybala's first-half strike, Ronaldo waved to the supporters in the stands who cheered him on for six years when he was a player on the red half of Manchester.

As he said goodbye, United fans could be heard singing the 'Viva Ronaldo' song they've belted out over on many occasions over the years. The mutual affection between the two just won't go away.

The 33-year old would have had a quite sensational goal on his big return had it not been for the unbelievable work of David De Gea.

In the second half, the former United No.7 started off a glorious team move by combining with Miralem Pjanic before being picked out by Juan Cuadrado on the edge of the box.

Ronaldo hit a venomous first-time strike that looked destined for the top bins, but De Gea, the man he scored a hat-trick past in the World Cup, tipped it over the bar in stunning fashion.
